During Enrichment Week on Wednesday the 17th July, Mrs Hughes arranged for Year 12 students to be joined by Gary Williams from ‘The British Butler Institute’ for a fantastic ‘6th Form Finishing School’. The entire day thoroughly helped us all as Gary taught us how to walk, talk, eat and behave in a formal manner. One of our activities was to walk with a book on our heads, this improved our posture, other activities involved instructions on how to lay a table, to fold a napkin appropriately, to sit and to speak and introduce ourselves to people appropriately.
Gary explained more inviting ways of speaking for example, instead of “Do you want a biscuit?” we learnt to ask in a more respectful way using “Can I tempt you with a biscuit”. In addition, we learnt how to introduce people to one another at formal gatherings, to seat a guest at the table and how to dine using the cutlery and glasses for the correct food and drink and in the right order. We benefited from this day as we were taught how to improve our chances in interview and when networking and meeting new people. We learnt how to be more confident and approachable by making use of the correct etiquette in order to appear more mature and professional overall.
